Do you have any pictures of the boat? If so, start a new topic with boat pics so we dont keep clogging up Bills topic here. :)

The HIN should be on the top right corner of the transom. If its no longer there, someone has done some body work and covered it up. You might be able to lightly grind down and find it if they didnt grind it totally out of there. Its just embossed in the fiberglass so it can be easily removed if someone wants too. If it is a Vulture and an older one like mine, it wont have a US Coast Guard plate. I asked Howard about it a few years back and he said between the age and it being 20 feet and over, there is tech no horsepower restrictions so no plate was needed. They did put them in later boats though for partially for insurance reasons on both ends.

Where are the HIN plates located on these hulls? I think it should have one on the right side of the transom and the coast guard placard inside, both of which are not there. Read somewhere about under the splashwell?

Yeah, you might want to get that squared away so you don't wind up having any issues later.

With that, as for the core, if its original or you don't know if its been redone, its junk and needs to be replaced. There are only two types of Hydrostreams, ones that need a new core, and ones that have had the core replaced. Sucks but when done right, it will out last you! I know if taken care of, mine will out live me now that its need redone, properly!

Brian9582 wrote: Nov 24, 2018 8:32 pm Yeah I read that they were first produced in 77. Title has 76 as year. Haven't found the number plate on the boat yet but title has HSP517VTM76J listed as the ID number.

That explains it, that is not a Vulture. That HIN is for a Vector. The VT in the HIN is the Vector. If it was a Vulture it would be a VL.

Also, the Vulture is 20 feet long and the Vector is 17 feet so if it is 20 feet, you have a title for a Vector and not a Vulture.

Here is how to read your HIN - https://www.hydrostreamforums.com/decodehin

Hope that helps.
I see... Well it would appear this boat is titled wrong lol its definitely a vulture.

Hippie459MN wrote: Nov 24, 2018 8:20 pm Nice! Are you sure its a 1976 cause the first year for the Vulture was 1977. Built in 1976 maybe but the first registered model year for the Vulture is 1977. I have an early model 77.

I apologize, I must have hit the reply button by accident scrolling through the post. Great writeup! Read through the whole thing. Just picked up a 76 vulture today. Feels solid but worry about the core.
