I decided I should get on here and document my 1986 Hydrostream VKing YT restoration since I have not put a definitive restoration document anywhere on the internet. I bought this boat for $600 bucks in Wisconsin. The boat was basically a shell in pretty rough shape. I started this project with the intention of building one of the baddest VKing YT's in the country. I was going to power it with OMC grunt to boot. The hard work has payed off with the boat going a GPS 104 this past summer with a 3 liter OMC built by me. Everything on this boat was built by me, including the engine. The only thing I didn't build was the lower unit which was done by Titus, and is an amazing piece. This fall I built a 6.5 inch rod 3.3 liter Frankenstein with the hopes of going faster next summer. I have a large number of pictures, but I'm not going to share every single thing from the build, as I have spent an enormous personal effort figuring out how to make these VKing YT's extremely fast without building it like a comp boat. Make no mistake, the boat is still pretty damn light, but is also amazingly strong. It is incredibly easy to drive with a little practice and will easily achieve 100+ even on dead flat water. No ripple needed to make it run free and fast.
