Typical balsa core thickness is 1/2". Yes, the Valero hull is the same as the VKing. Just the top deck is different.

I’ll definitely be following along since I’ve also just gotten an 84 Valero and I’m in the deconstruction state!

Just saved a 1985 Valero V bottom in some serious need of love. The boat has been butchered with layers of paint on the top half. The original floor was rotten so the guy just screwed 3/4" sheets of plywood down over top and 2 of the deck screwed went right through the bottom of the boat near the sides and they cover the plywood in a fake wood rubber flooring.

I got all the rotten floor out and cut a square of glass out of the bottom and the core is like wet cardboard. Stringers are rotten too.

So who knows about these valeros? From what I gather they have the same bottom as the Viking?

Is there also a core in the pad area between the stringers?
