Re: 79 Vector rebuild

So a a bit of an update. Well today was core day, at least for a little bit. I managed to get the core in the outer wings in and covered with a layer of 1708. I picked up a vacuum pump a few weeks ago for this, as well as a few other projects I have in mind later. So being the cheap *** that I am, I...

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

Well after a lot of grinding, I have picked up my first order of glass and resin. My first question is what are the opinions of raising the transom a couple of inches? I have a 20" mid and as much as I'd like to get a 15" I don't see it happening anytime soon. The plan is for a small set b...

Re: Hello! New vector owner and member

Where abouts in Muskoka are you?
I am currently rebuilding my vector, if it gets done this summer (doubtful) it'll spend some time in Lake Of Bays.
I will be picking up my order of supplies this weekend to start putting stuff back IN the boat.

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

So after yet another break from working on the boat due to spending a month away with work I was finally able to try out that diamond grinding disc I got from express right before I left. It works awesome, I first started on the transom, managed to burn a hole in the transom in the process. Oh well....

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

Questions about layup schedule. I am getting ready to start ordering some supplies for my boat rebuild. The plan is to use VE resin. My thoughts are 2 layers of 1.5oz CSM (or 2oz?) on the bottom of the hull, I will bed the balsa into the CSM. Is 1 layer of 1708 enough on top of the balsa or should I...

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

Got a few more hours into the boat today. Got rained on a bit but the water kept the dust down from the little bit of cutting I had to do. I managed to get the rest of the core out of boat today. Once I got the upper skin cut off what was left of the balsa just scooped up with a shovel or was swept ...

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

Made a bit of progress today, went to my buddies place for a couple of hours before dinner to work on the boat, I had intended on adding some more support under the outer strakes, I decided to start cutting out a float box instead. http://www.adadk.ca/HSF/RWM/canuckr/20150406_185758_zpshr2n3xfl.jpg ...

Re: Replacement rub rail and windshield

It sucks to hear about guys that won't ship to Canada. Especially when we are willing to pay the shipping fees. I kind of get it though. Another tip for anybody Canadian that wants to ship over the border. Do NOT use UPS, their brokerage fees are absolutely ridiculous, I have paid 120$ shipping for ...

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

Well, I was finally able to start working on my Vector again. There is still 2 ft of snow on the ground all around the boat, but I couldn't wait any longer to do something with it. The weather was nice, a balmy +4 C. I cut out the splash well and got almost all of the transom removed. It was pretty ...

Re: 79 Vector rebuild

First I will start by asking one of the admins to move this thread to the rebuild/make over section I think would be more appropriate. Secondly my 79 Vector is actually an 82' whoops. Thirdly it is buried in snow and just when I thought I was winning the conversation on getting my buddy to let me pu...
