Ok, here's a few ideas. The 2.4/2.5 Merc motors won't push alot of water until the thermostats open up so the motor needs to warm up for a bit. You may need new thermostats. The other thing to check is the poppit valve. If the Valve is stuck it may send water straight through the lower unit instead ...

Hey Hippie! Thanks!! I had to chase down a water pressure issue which wound up being a slipped keyway between the waterpump and the drive shaft. (shaft was spinning but the impellor was not). In the process I replaced the poppit valve and the the thermostats (they really need to be replaced anyway)....

Jupiter inlet brings back memories. Is the sandbar still across the inlet at the ocean? Me and my dad toof the rudder of a sailboat on that bar back around 1979.
