I've been running a balsa core test in my boat since 1983. When it shows signs of saturation or failure, I'll post my finding here. If you can't wait for the results or require a longer lasting material I would recommend synthetic.

Sorry, never owned one. I've always had an interest because the Panther became the Ventura after some work with a sawzall. Toyed with the idea of restoring one so I'd have a "matching set". Just never gonna got around to it (kinda like my project of becoming a billionaire).

I've seen worse than that brought back, it's a tremendous amount of work and expense. Could take years unless you have tons of spare time. On average, I would say less than 20% of projects that size ever get completed. Biggest problem you'll have there is with the rub rail, that stuff is near imposs...

Boat's a wreck, would need a full resto. The aluminum is a desperate attempt to stop the transom from flexing. Nice looking fab job but a sound hull needs none of that.
