Re: 1987 Vegas XT

As far as I know, these boats had a balsa core, and wood stringers, all encapsulated in fiberglass. I think that’s probably what we’re looking at here. When built, they would cover the stringers with fiberglass mat and fiberglass resin. On the second picture straight down from the steering wheel spo...

Re: 1987 Vegas XT

Welcome, I agree, your deck looks really nice! Most people on this forum will recommend that you rebuild your stringer/core system close to factory specs. It's lightweight and strong. Re: Prop hub sizing

Yes, that is a surfacing prop, designed to be run partially out of the water. However the motor in the pic does not have a low water pickup. With a low water pickup, and your propshaft about 2 or 3 inches below the pad,(to start), and a long list of safety gear...you'll go fast. :)

25 inch Optimax

If your going to set it up for any speed, you will need a lot of set back, and typically the more set back, the more the engine can be raised. So, you will need to jack it an additional five inches, also, keeping the center of gravity low is preferable. Is it to tall? Well, you can make it work, but...
