Re: Baby Virage update and make-over

With the inside skin “stabilized “, and I had several sheets of the 1/4” foam panels, I glassed in stringers and a floor. I realized a flat floor wouldn’t work so I came up with a dropped center section for better leg room. The lower floor drains into a narrow bilge area. The floor was glassed in an...

Re: Baby Virage update and make-over

Once I got it in the shop ( I still lived in Alaska then), pulled the deck, and looked over the waterlogged hull. I was wondering if it was worth saving the Whaler hull or just making a new hull. I decided to do both. That would save $$ in fiberglass and mold making , keeping the whalers transom, si...

Baby Virage update and make-over

About 20 years ago I made three 1/2 size Virages for my kids. They were painted to match the Virage I had at the time. I made the decks and put on 9’ Boston Whaler hulls ( for safety reasons). Over the years, they got sold off and all left town. Fast forward about 17 years , we have our ‘91 Virage i...

Re: ‘89 HST interior build

Well, the more I do, the easier it gets. I was getting ready to mount the front seats and “woah!!!” The ski locker hatch won’t come out!! The seats are 1” off the floor ( Factory height). The only way it could have been removed would be to slide forward. The rear seat base is too close to go back an...

Re: ‘89 HST interior build

I’m thinking it was the bulk at the piping AND that I sewed the piping on the arm band THEN sewed the pleated panel to that which caused the issues. Here’s the comparison. Now to tear down the other seat. [ Post made via iPhone ] https://www.hydrostreamforums.com/ext/sniper/mobiledevice/images/iPhon...

Re: ‘89 HST interior build

Got all the sewing done and installed. Everything was looking great until the front buckets. The foam on the shell goes beyond the fiberglass edge by up to 1-1/2” beyond. Even with firm foam, it can’t hold the sewn together pleats straight. I removed the pleaded panel from the arm band and started s...
