Re: new member with a 78 viper
Got my new(to me) power-plant today. She will get new water pump and thermostats.. might fill top holes on the gear case.. not sure yet. I need solid mounts, controls, and steering for it. If you have a lead on that stuff please contact me here.

Re: 1984 hydrostream vector tearing down
From what I have been reading, balsa is a great core for a boat. I would say make sure you soak some resin in the balsa before you lay it in the hull, and make sure there is enough resin to make a bond if it soaks up a little more. on top, I did mine with a layer of 17 oz and used a paint brush to s...

You're doing a great job so far, keep on going carefully and you should do just fine! looks like you found the core area in the pad too. Keep it up

Re: Vector core
I would not shy away from a more conventional core like original.. Myself, I did balsa core. I'm not saying I did it the best way, because I might have to do it different next time.. But many boats use a balsa core for a reason, it works well. There are other core options as well, however I'm not ve...

Re: Vector rebuild help
I do believe the chopped side goes down, and the repairs might be easier with the chopped strand. From what I have seen, it makes a smoother transition at the edges of the glass fibers. you can tear it and feather it out at the far sides of the repair to make a surface that needs less sanding. It ca...

Re: Vector rebuild help
you can use 1708 for just about all of it. it is a fairly heavy glass and will be challenging around tight corners though. when you build the transom, I would put a layer of glass in between there. remember the wood will absorb some resin so don't be shy with it. and it may also be used for smaller ...
