Re: recore material

We are all budget minded, and epoxy is not needed unless the smell of styrene drives you crazy, on a boat that sits outside of the water more than in the water. End-grain balsa is great. 1/2 inch will do the trick on the entire bottom. it couldn't hurt to glass a layer of plywood in the pad, also, a...

Re: Hydrostream vs Canadian Edition

THE MAJORITY OF THESE BOATS ARE TRAILERED, NOT LEFT IN THE WATER FOR ANY TIME AT ALL, SO WATER MIGRATION THROUGH THE GEL AND OUTER SKIN IS MINIMAL. I WOULD BET THE MAJORITY OF ALL WATER SATURATION IS FROM THE BOAT NOT BEING STORED WITH THE NOSE VERY HIGH AND WATER LAYING UNDER THE FLOOR FOR MONTHS O...

Re: V-King jackplate

you will be very safe if you run the top of the prop shaft two inches below the pad. make sure you take the measurement with the shaft running parallel to the pad by using a straight edge from a foot up the pad and toward the motor. make sense? play with the trim till you get it parallel. if you are...

Re: first hydrostream

YEAH, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, AND PUT A HOLE-SAW INTO THE FLOOR TOWARD THE STERN OF THE BOAT AND THEN POKE A LONG SCREWDRIVER WAY DOWN INTO THE CORE. IF IT IS BAD, YOU WILL PROBABLY FEEL A REEL MUSHY FEELING BEHING THE GLASS, AND SEE SOME BROWN WATERY LOOKING CRAP. IF IT IS MUSHY, THEN YOU GOTTA FIX IT...

Re: V-King jackplate

put it 2 inches below the pad to be safe, and then you can carry weight in the boat, and run pretty fast, too.

Re: New V-King Owner!

as a previous poster stated, wetsanding is great, but i might not need anything that aggresive. try some maguiers (sp?) one step cleaner wax and see what she does. if not, then i would try some polishing compound. i personally would make wet sanding the final attempt. if you wanna go all out, again ...

Re: 77 Viper

pretty boat, but, seriously, i would bet $100 if you run a moisture meter on it, it will state that it is full of water, even after sitting for 10 years. the core is like a watch, once water gets is, it aint coming out. it will just sit and rot. at the very least, tap all over the bottom with a soft...

Re: 77 Viper

looks like original to me. you could get any color you wanted back then. if the core hasn't been done, and everything else is good, don't pay more than $2k, unless you have a moisture meter and tap all over the bottom. my guess is, core has not been done, and because he spent money on the interior, ...

MY DAD HAS A 225 EVINRUDE (1988-1990) THAT IS A 25 INCH, SUPER, SUPER CLEAN POWERHEAD, FRESHWATER MOTOR, COMPRESSION SHOWS WITHIN 10 POUNDS ON ALL 6. HIS GAUGE SHOWS 100-110, WHICH SEEMS HIGH FOR A STOCK MOTOR, SO I BET HIS GAUGE IS SIMPLY A LITTLE "HAPPY". IT DOES NOT HAVE A LOT OF TIME O...
