I have an old Merc 85 on a Viper. It's OK to get out on the water and play, and it'll do about 45, but it won't get on the "step" and dance like a Hydrostream should. I think a newer 115 2-stroke would be about the minimum. As for 4-stroke/2 stroke, I don't think a 4 is a good choice for a...

Batteries can drop fast if not used, especially if they're left connected. I've had good luck with cheap Harbor Freight trickle chargers. Also, you may want to check the battery voltage while the boat is running. 12-volts won't charge a battery.

There should be a number stamped on the outside hub or the hub-end; something like "24P." That's your pitch, the theoretical forward direction in inches at one revolution. Keep looking, it's on there somewhere.
