Re: new member with a 78 viper
Yes, the core is Balsa wood. I used 1/2' in mine. They do make composite core material as well but with that it will cost you more but its not prone to future rot like balsa is. But like most of us on here say about balsa, if it lasted 25+ years built poorly, it will last you twice that when you bu...

Re: new member with a 78 viper
What idvette said! DO NOT confuse the floor with the CORE! They are 2 different animals. The core is the main, major stuctural part of your boat (Found under the FLOOR) and from the factory they were not sealed well and were very prone to rotting. Just about every one of us here has done one or is ...

Re: new member with a 78 viper
Welcome Aaron. You will LOVE the Viper when properly set up. First thing I would do is get that hull off the rollers and put bunks on the trailer. Those things will make your bottom a washboard quick. Chances are your core is shot. Boy do we hate to tell newcomers this but we just gotta. Most of us...

Re: new member with a 78 viper
If it's an original core it will be balsa wood. Go to the project section on the forum and browse some projects you'll see what we are talking about. Short cut to mine posted below. Mine was a pile of turds when I started but theres also boats that seem pristine that have core just as rotten. Not t...
