Low Water Pickup
Anyone on here run with out a low water pickup? as some of you know i just bought my first stream and my 2001 V6 Johnson did not come equip with a low water pickup. I do have an outboard water pressure gauge on my dash. I plan on running this summer with out the low water pickup and hopefully during the off season sending it away to bobs machine shop. if anyone knows of any other places to get it done cheaper or any advice on why not to do it. please let me know your opinions

Re: Low Water Pickup
I was going to do the same but I just ordered one. The boat is so much easier to drive with the motor up but just as I get it up there I lose water press. I am going to try and install it myself and see how it goes.

Re: Low Water Pickup
The only reason not to do it, that I've heard, is that raising the motor and surfacing the prop adds stress to the stock bearing carrier. That might shorten it's life.if anyone knows of any other places to get it done cheaper or any advice on why not to do it. please let me know your opinions
You can get a Merc HD bearing carrier at Bob's also ($$$),
http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/engine_bearingCarrier.cfm
but I don't know about an OMC.
Hot lookin' YT!
Best of luck

Re: Low Water Pickup
I run Bobs NOSE Cones with torque tamers & Low water pick-ups on all 3 of my 75 Johnson Stingers and on ALL 3 OF My hydroStream Hustler Vpads........THEY ARE Great ....just got one Back froms Bobs today........cost was about 550....
I run Cleaver props so the motor likes to run hign........BOBS Nose and low water pickups did the trick
NO WORRIES ABOUT LOSING WATER PRESSURE NO MORE!
As far as more speed......I would say No but water pressure was my reason for using Bobs

Re: Low Water Pickup
If your surfacing your prop, synthetic gear lube is a must. At least on merc's. High mount = speed and handling at speed.

I sent my lower to Bob's last winter. They do great work! The boat handles WAY better! Good luck!

Re: Low Water Pickup
I've got a nose cone setup on my vector. Much, much easier to drive all out on the pad. Get that set up and watch your hydrostream come to life.
