Allowable Lateral Engine Offset

Post: # 1354Post LSaupe »

Greetings all:

While trying to troubleshoot a problem (vibration) I recently noticed that my engine is not centered on the transom (in the lateral sense) - V-King. It is offset 1/2" to the Port side. Looks like it has been that way since day one. Is this dimension critical? Is this abnormal or normal to have this offset on V-Kings?

I wouldn't think this has anything to do with your vibration but it is not the optimal set up. I would think it might have a tendency to lean but other than that I don't see any problems.

hi guys just got back from the lake testing the modified 235 evinrude v6 on the viper. can you say fasssttt! after half the day playing with set up ,"1/4" mile was 83.3 mph at 7200 rpm with a 26 pitch yamaha drag prop, propshaft even with the drain plug, 4'' set back 12 gallons of fuel under splash well.hole shot was very good, boat is very light after about 70mph but straight as an arrow. never had time to play with 75 hp shot of nitro, the wind was picking up. so far so good.

larry did you measure the hull by xing it out, i have seen some hull that were way more out than that. if you take a reading across the back ,the center will be off .

Hey Tommy:

I just took a measurement across the top of the transom. Maybe this isnt as far off as I had envisioned then.

as long as your motor is center of the pad i wouldnt worry to much about it. some of the hulls had problems with the cap not matching up to the hull. i would line the motor up with center of the pad, and go from there.
