vector performance

Post: # 17770Post YDOC462 »

whats up guys. heres my setup: i was running a 27 srx even with pad. with 2 people in boat (side steer setup) i saw 87 mph gps....rpms 7300ish. boat flew nice and straight! i recently purchased a 29 srx worked by DAH. while out testing yesterday (riding alone) the best number i seen was 89mph gps. not sure about rpms but im assuming they were a lil lower than before. prop shaft height the same.

heres my issue: all day yesterday the boat was super flighty. every time i approached 90 it wanted to come over. and the only time i could get best number out of her was with a full/fuller tank. as the tank emptied the boat wanted to blow over at slower speeds. all i could get was 85mph.

to me it seems the boat handles and performs better with 2 people. the extra weight is either balancing the boat side to side or front to back...not sure. but alot less flighty. and able to reach higher speeds.

i thought that if i could see 87 with the 27 i would surely see 90 with the 29? wrong? any thoughts?

Pretty much everything your reporting is normal. Sounds like you're running a 2:1 gear with that much rpm. Sounds like you're also a little too happy with the "up" button

I'd want the motor higher, with more gear, so you "push" it harder, and don't have to fly it so hard. Keep the propshaft parallel to the water, and let the hull fly itself.

What motor/mods are you running?? I know mine lived all last season at 7000 plus, but I've been told by many that might not be the best for my motor...

its a 225 promax with a lil work done. just cleaned up all the ports. brucato acu. 139 -140 on all six. I believe the Promax makes its best power around 6800, I would like to keep wot around 7. I don't mind the 2:1 gears right now as I wouldlike to keep adding speed in small increments. (6 months ago I was running 70 lol) once I feel I have maxed these gears out ill get me a 187 case.

I'd rather be flying straight on a rail at 89 than all over the place at 95

I was thinking it was a 200. You're going to want to switch to an ET or a cleaver, the SRX makes too much lift. That Promax is going to want to get you into the upper 90's. Keep the propshaft parallel to the bottom of the boat, no positive trim at all.

question......I'm running 2.5 " setback on a flattened pad. would switching to a 5 " setback allow me to run flatter with less wetted surface?

More setback should make it want less trim, and effectively run flatter.

I was going to echo transomstand's comment on the cleaver, he beat me to it lol I'm finding the choppers have too much bow lift, I'm going to look for a cleaver when I'm ready to hit the water again.

2nd on the Cleaver. Hows the motor trim when you're running? An ET works great with my wife onboard with neutral trim. I tried going out alone and pooped my pants. WAY too flighty with the ET solo.
