Typical Vector issues. Need help.

Post: # 19194Post EricHuegele »

Hey guys,
I have a new to me 1979 Vector, 1994 Merc 150hp Black Max, 5.5" CMC Manual jackplate, 14" X 26 pitch through hub exhaust Laser II prop. Prop shaft approx 2" below pad, 20 gallon fuel tank and battery in the back. Same problems as I read of on here, severe porpoise at mid speeds and a bad chine walk at top speed. The boat will get up and fly on the pad for a few seconds and then fall off and start chine walking. Any advice on where to start with my setup?

Get the motor up at least an inch, that's a good place to start. Might not change porpoise but will help with chine walk. I put a drag plate on mine, a Vision with a 200 Merc on it. That almost eliminated the porpoise immediately. Mine's shorter than a Vector though, you might not have the same results as me...

Raised the motor up even with the pad. Boat runs MUCH better! Now I just need to learn how to drive the dang thing. The boat ran 68 at 5,600 rpm. Good? Bad? Ugly?

Boat should run mid to upper 70's with a 26 Chopper. You need solid motor mounts, tight dual cable steering, a good CORE, a competition life jacket, kill switch with lanyard, and a foot throttle. Then raise the motor another inch and go lookin for 80.
