I bought a venus xt last fall. I'm running a 150 mariner with 6" set Back and prop 2 1/2" below pad with lazer 2 24 pitch as suggested on Hydrostream history page. Runs at 5800 rpm but I can only get high 40's maybe 50 mph. Any suggestion ? Besides more power, funds are dried up this yr. I tried a laser 2 26 pitch strong pull but only 5400 rpm at most.

I'd say start by raising the motor, it's free to do that. At 6" back, you should be able to run level with the pad. Then try that 26 again....

Can I run it that high with no low water pick up?

Um, not likely, guess I shouldn't have assumed you were running one. So how about a torque tab, dual steering, solid mounts?? You may be safer to stay where you are...

Hydraulic steering, no toque tab, going to order solid mounts. What about a hydrofoil? Will that help at all? I was looking at bobs true track tracker.

If you have a water pressure gauge (if not, get one), start raising your motor and raise it as high as you can until you start loosing pressure. I bet you still get it up a ways yet. Also, I have seen people plug the top 2-4 holes on the water pickups on a stock case and get the motor up a bit more. Personally, I say invest in a cone with low water pickup.

The hydrofoil will help out of the hole and with low speed porpoising, but that's it.

Thanks for the input. I do have a land and sea nose cone that was on it when I got the 150. However it was installed poorly so I took it off. What should I use to put it back on? Tack weld then cover or some kind of epoxy mix?
