Will the cables from a merc work on an evinrude?

My boat came rigged for a merc from the prev owner but I am going to be putting a Evinrude on it this weekend I hope and I know the wiring harness is different and I will be using that from the boat that the motor is coming from but I was wondering if I can use the shifter cables and the throttle cable that was used on the Merc that is already in the boat. It has an aftermarket shifter and a hot foot and I havent been able to get a good look at the Evinrudes hook ups just yet (Hopefully be pulling it off the boat tomorrow if I dont have to work).

If it helps it is a 1985 20" Evinrude 175.

They will not just hook up but you can geat adapters for the cable and for the wire harness.

That would be great if I could just get adapters. Would save me a bunch of headache. I will look at it more tomorrow afternoon when I get home with the boat. Going to take the boat over and hang the new motor tomorrow morning.


I will be taking pictures along the way so I know what kind of stuff I am looking it when I reinstall everything.

I checked the price of the adapters for the cables a set is $98.00 so it's cheaper to get new cables.
I couldn't find the harness adapter at work but I have one that I plan to use I'll check for a part #. I might have a extra omc harness laying arround, I do have a extra flush mount controll box if you need it.
