viper set up

Post: # 5617Post 77viper »

I just finished my viper and will be playing with set up in the near future Here is where I'm starting from.
77 viper with factory hook and pad
The hull weighs 997 rigged dry center steer
20" mid on a bob's convertible jack plate set at 2.5"
I have a 3 hole cle with a thinned and sharpened skeg
My propshaft is 1/2" above the pad
The power head is a stock block 2.4 200 with cut 5 pedal fiber reeds wmh20 carbs and a light weight flywheel.
Oh there is a extra 130hp at the push of a button.
The prop is a 26 yamaha drag that has been thinned and balanced.
I'm using it strictly for drag racing

The first time I had it out I was just going to take it up and try to keep it on the pad I ended up hitting 82mph within the first 10 minuets.
I haven't been keeping times or speeds yet but will keep this updated.
I have a bunch of props to try and will keep this updated.

Your going to have to balance the boat for the nitrous hit, I ran a svs'd 260 with a 125 poke, and if my rhythm was off it was a wild ride. When it was on it was on though. You'll need a cone on the CLE too, or it is going to kick your ***. Been there.

You're right about the timing and the bottle. I thought I could just tap it as I went along but found out quick not to do that again. It torques to the left hard as you hit it the to the right as you let off. I found it's best to hit it from the get go and not let up.

The cle has a Titus cone on it already. It was set up for a XR but he went with something else, but thanks for the heads up

Here it is torquing over

I have some other pics around of the hole shot. I ran five inches of set back and launched the boat just a little tucked under, the bow would come up three times then the boat would set. I found it was quicker and easier than dealing with the roll when the bow planted with a lot of negative trim. Took a lot of practice though, when you get it figured out you'll be tough to beat as long as the water/wind stays consistant.
