Well despite the overly warm weather we did manage to get a good amount of work done today and hopefully the next time I have more progress pictures it will be going the other way.

Here the splasswell is cut out and ready to start ripping the transom out.

Image

Ant the rip out begins. There was so much water in there and some of the wood was like mud.

Image

And here is a pile of soaking wet transom!

Image

And the transom is out!!! Well about 98% out. Just needs some very minor clean up yet.

As you can see the garbage can is awfully full and there is a nice pile on the ground also.

Image

Image

Look at what many many years of a soaking wet transom will do to the transom hooks deals. Surprisingly there was only one busted bolt of the 4.

Image

And a little more grinding but with the tyvek suits and masks and 86 deg humid weather it didnt last long. We fizzled out kinda quick but wont take long to just do a quick once over in a few spots and down goes core!!!

Until next time we now return you to your regularly scheduled postings... :boating:

I don't know how you guys down south do this. I can sit out all day and grind when it's below freezing but this heat crap is for the birds.

I figure about 4 more hours of grinding and it will be going back together.

Hey Hip, good job. Glad you are getting some work done. Just to shame you a little...my son decided to replace the wood in a little bass boat we got in a deal for some outboards. He started two weeks ago, finished the transom, floor and stringers yesterday and flipped it (by himself?!) to start paint prep. We broke temp records 3 times last week up to 95 degrees! And this is just a junk Glasstream fishn bote. The boy is nuts....

It has an off shore mid on it. Should make plenty of noise.

Once I get a few things squared away on it then pictures and details will be posted but it is a white motor.

Well, As I sit here dreaming about a boat on the water while the little guy is taking his daily nap, I was looking at this motor in my basement and I think I have come up with some nice side art for it when it comes time.

I have an ide for the back but I will get to that later. Here it is, Nothing to fancy really.

Image

That would be my umpba.org race number. Now you all know I have rude power for the boat.

Well, Got a chance to get some time in on the old bird today. Half of it sucks really bad but it needs to be done. I spent a bit up under the bow and almost have it all out and smoothed out and ready but I had to tap out on that today.

This is a little bit of whats all left as of the end of the day of grinding.

Image

Image

Notice how clean the transom is. Almost ready...

Image

Image

Time to do some forward progress finally. No more grinding for now.

2 layers of strand and a few small pieces to fix a few holes that were on the bottom. All sealed up and strong now.

Image

And what do we have here... I am raising the transom about 2 inches and that will all get cut even eventually but due to the sun going down and the bugs about to carry us away this is where we left off for the day. Over all I say we got a lot done and that transom is in there and solid as ever right now.

Image

Image

I must say I really learned a lot today and it will make project number 2 (and 3, and 4 and...) so much easier and understandable when it comes to fiberglassing. Again Chet, Thank you for all your help on this.

Time to take my itchy self to bed....

Oh yeah, Thanks to the folks at Express Composite. You guys treated me like a rock star the other day. Thank you. :D
