Started putting the inner core in. Started out with 8' over the pad. It was bedded in 1 evening and glassed in the next evening. Before I glassed it in I did Ron Pratt's quarter test and found a very small spot over the driver seat area that had a distingtively differnt tone. Drilled a 1/8" hole to the pad surface and backfilled it with resin. It didn't take much, but the different tone was gone when I rechecked it. Thank's Ron!

Yes, it is 3/4" 7-ply douglas fir marine grade plywood. My original intention was to use Sitka spruce for it's strength and lightness. I found this marine plywood at a specialty lumber store near me for a lot less than the spruce. I think it will be plenty strong and found it to be fairly light as well.

Not sure where you see old balsa? When this hull was gutted, there was not a sliver of wood, of any type, left in the hull. All wood you are currently seeing is new wood, Douglas Fir plywood and endgrain balsa.

Could be just the photo, but it appears there is still balsa material in place. Or it may be new already?

I agree now that you point that out. That looks like its not ground out all the way. Here is what it should look like when its all cleaned up nice

Have to get it all out down to the glass and get every last piece of wood out.

I understand what your looking at now. When I removed all the old core, it left some residual glue or bedding material stuck to the fiberglass. Look again at the center core section. This residual material all gets ground out and a layer of 1.5oz glass was laid down to give the new core a nice flat bed to adhere to. The area that Transomstand sketched out will get ground down as well. This is the first time i've ever done a project like this and trying to learn from many of the previous threads. I can tell you that I would have never tried to tackle this endevour if it wasn't for all the great advice and knowledge that has been made available on this site. The Hydrostream "culture" is absolutely awesome!!!

All of my cored is bedded and in, Just need to finish covering all of it and put the floor down then flip it over and fix the botom and then put the motor on it and hopefully have a working boat.
