Project Sleeper in progress

Post: # 19144Post QuarterHorse »

Some of you know I bought a 1977 Hydrostream Vamp last winter for a project. With some things going on another boat redo at my townhouse was not in the cards. My folks said I could rent out the back part of the shop to do the resto-mod for the Vamp. With helping Nosboss on his Ventura II, getting things going again on my Vector, and the typical things life throws at a person it sat. I told myself after our family vacation I would get started on the project, I got back last night.

What I started with

Had an inline on 950 on it, so obviously it had to go. Supposedly ran last year, needs a distributor, open to offers to get rid of it with controls. On to removing it amongst other junk.

Should look good with Vandal screens and no rail!

Drug it off the trailer and got 'er flipped and ready for a jig.

So I'm ready to get some lumber and get a jig built this weekend for it. While it's upside down I'll go ahead and drill all the rivets for the rub rail while it's somewhat easy to do.

Plans, like my Vector and Nosboss' Ventura II are a no core, stringer build. After doing one, helping with another, I have another idea on how I want to make this one even better so we'll see how it goes.

Just got back with materials for making a jig, but I'm out of gas today. When I got out of the truck it said 101, I think I'll call 'er quits today and get out there on Sunday morning.

Thanks Kevin, I plan on keeping this boat for a LONG time and putting the right parts in/on it as well as building it bullet proof. Hope to make the Hydrostream community proud of this one for sure!

Thanks for posting pics Proprider for the idea of the jig. With some extra hands from my step dad and Nosboss I got the jig done today, after a short break I hope to have a Vamp on a jig tonight and start getting the top off.

I hope the casters I put on it help more than hurt, although I do have a couple that lock so it's not rolling all over the place.

Jig looks good! You'll be glad you made it and the castors will be beneficial too. Now all you need is a stool to climb in/out of the hull. I look forward to following your thread.

Looking good! I am at a point where I need to make a jig for my Valero YT, but I don't really know how to go about it with the sponsons and all. Figured I may just set mine on the floor and stack up some 2x4's and such to support the strakes.

What is your plan for power? Going back with blue?
