Hey guys I have a couple questions, Im gonna use vinylester resin.. do I need to use a core bond putty while installing the new core? or am I ok to get by with using the unthickened resin as the bonding agent? before laying the core.. im thinking about going with a layer of 6-10oz cloth, then balsa, then 1808. Is that a good way to go? or start with 1808/1708 and or mat. just looking for some opinions on the way some others have gone about this. thanks, Darcy

You will need either core bond or a thickened resin. I have used cabisil to thicken vinylester. I use csm under the thickened resin rather than mat and 1708 or 1808 over the core.

i went back and forth and tried to find my wood locally. i ended up using 3/4" marine ply. it ran $75 a sheet but i was told it would last forever.

Hey guys been a while since Ive been on here to post my progress. I have worked hard on the boat for the past 3 weeks after it sat for a long time while i was busy with work. I have a few questions though before i go further. Im wondering if this is the way to go. Tab the stringers in with 3/4 oz mat, lay the core in and go over with one layer of 1708 and bond the cloth right up the side of the stringer.. then the pad area core same thing? across the core and up both sides? or do you guys add more layers? i think one would be strong enough but just thought id ask. Last question. The front bulkhead.. does is bond directly to the hull? or on top of core. o and balsa scrim up or down? i thought down..
Thanks,
Darcy

i used one layer of 1708 over core, 2 layers of csm under core on pad.

glassin that big piece of 1708 was a lil tricky

i glassed my front bulk head directly to hull just like stringer were done. i think either way is fine (same discussion over stringers bonded on top or around core)

balsa can go either way, which ever one allows it to lay flatter

ok thanks!

I only have 3/4 oz CSM and 1708 on hand.. Is 2 layers of 3/4 oz CSM enough to tab the stringers in or will I need more strength there. I dont think ill ever get the 1708 to bend over the top of the stringers so is it fine to glass just along the side of the stringer when covering my core?
