That video never gets old.

That right there is why I say a 6" plate is way to much for a viper.

transomstand wrote: Jul 27, 2017 2:42 pm Well.........before the internet was invented we ran Vipers 70 mph with inlines and NO jackplate. But I guess that don't count
Just my 2 cents pete, everything on here is based on personal preference, props, on individual hulls. I run a cleaver myself now, and i much prefer it over the small ear chopper i had. I finally got my engine running decent now, I wish i had it running good at the CTRR when i tried that 30 chopper. I think i would have had more fun. What I'm saying is, i wouldn't mind one more inch setback on my viper with the cleaver... the mid speed bow lift is non existent with the cleaver. The chopper on the other hand wanted less setback on my boat.

I like that video. Love the I6 motors.
Even before GPS there was still a bit of math that would get you close to approximating speed. Pitch/gear ratio/ rpm, variable being slip.

Put the jack plate back on, put solid mounts in the motor and some form of dual cable steering and some sort of 26 pitch decent prop. But if the core is soft in the boat none of this will matter.
