New guy with a varmint

Post: # 22845Post blacknsilvr »

Just thought I’d stop in and introduce myself. First time hydrostream owner, but not new to boats. About to start restoring my ‘77 varmint. My other ride is a 1988 reaction 19.

Here’s a few. Just started tearing into the floor and getting ready to do the core.

Those are cool boats. Glad to see you saving it.
Hope you start a thread in the restoration section. I know we would all like to watch your build. We've all been thru it.

That’s not a comp hull is it? Or did you cut out the rear livewell? Plans to split it?

Looking forward to more progress pics, I have an ‘81 Varmint!

Edit: I saw on Facebook he cut the rear livewell out. Not a comp...

I cut the aft livewell out to get access to the floor. Every bit of wood is rotten. I’m glad I dig into the transom, it was worse than I thought.

I’m not going to split the hull, I’ll piece the splash well back together and paint the top cap at a later date.

Alaskastreamin, I’m glad I saw where you mentioned vinyl ester doesn’t cure in thin layers, that potentially saved me from grinding out new core.
