New to the forum and new to hydrostream boats
New to the forum and I’m here because I’ve started a project haha
I was given a 84 Valero that definitely needs a recore!
I’ve started on ripping everything out so I can begin ordering everything to do this
Pictures to come
I’ve power washed all the crap off it because it’s been sitting outside for the last 8 years.... poor thing

Re: New to the forum and new to hydrostream boats
I’m going to be digging through the topics in the forums for what materials to use because I want to build this boat as if i was going to put a 200 or bigger but I’m only going to go with a 150 because I’m not looking to break records I just want to have fun on Michigan’s clear fresh water lakes!
So if anyone has any pointers or recommendations on a particular topic I’d really appreciate it!

Re: New to the forum and new to hydrostream boats
Welcome to the forum David. There's lots of threads on here that you can research to help you. Keep in mind some threads may not have working pictures due to those being hosted by Photobucket that no longer work.
Judging from the pics you posted, it looks like you'll need to do a full replacement of the core and transom. From what I remember, there shouldn't be plywood stringers in your boat. Hydrostream used a pre-formed fiberglass keelbox about 6-7 inches wide that ran down the pad. (Basically a square U-channel that is upside down).
You'll need to remove that as well to get to the balsa core in the pad.
Start a worklog in the Restorations section. Let's see your work and we'll be able to answer any questions you have as you progress on the rebuild. Ron (alaskastreamin) is a wealth of knowledge so don't be afraid to pick his brain every chance you get.

Re: New to the forum and new to hydrostream boats
Thanks!
Yea I began digging a little deeper yesterday and noticed it does have this glass keelbox
Now, would you recommend putting wood stringers with a knee in place of this glass channel?

Re: New to the forum and new to hydrostream boats
Although it's not needed, it doesn't hurt. My viper had a keelbox and I'm replacing that with 2 stringers with knees built in to tie into the transom.
Check page 4 of the Viper Rebuild thread by proprider in the Restorations section. Basically that's how I'll be doing mine (the 2 down the pad - not the outer 2).
But my Viper is also a lot smaller than yours and I'm gonna being hanging a V6 off the back so I want the extra support.

Yea I want to run a Yamaha 150 v max so I’m gonna add the support just to be on the safe side plus if I ever get rid of it I want it to be future proofed for me or future owners so if they want to go bigger they can

Re: New to the forum and new to hydrostream boats
So there is this green foam that’s soaked with water but it’s glued right over the core and next to the channel
Is this something that’ll need to be replaced or something that’s not needed

No idea what that is. Might have been from a previous repair job?
