Haha! Probably not though. Even though we are not a retail business (we provide service for other machine shops), the Admins at S&F have made it real clear that I'm not to do any work for anyone on that site without being a paying vendor. I've gone 25 years without advertising....I'm not starting now.

I don't mind helping friends out when I can. I hate seeing things not get done right because guys just can't find anyone who will actually invest in the proper tooling. You would be amazed at the "PRO engine builders" who have nothing more than a ball hone...

Well, technically, yes, I guess I'd get banned or suspended or whatever.

Anyway, it all stemmed from me making the trim tabs and trying to get them to members on there through the "for sale" section. I was selling them at material cost plus shipping. I didn't make a dime for my labor, or for the water jet work. I just wanted to get them into the hands of guys who had handling problems so their boats would be safer. My ad was pulled and I was told I would have to pay to be a vendor or whatever, even to "sell" parts at a loss, for the love of the hobby.
I had to cut my losses there. The admin also told me that I would not be able to provide machine services either unless I were to upgrade status yet again. It's their responsibility to protect their vendors, so I get it. What I don't get is how so many shops are so under equipped to do the jobs that they spend so much advertising on.

There are some good shops out there....there is also some who don't have any real capital investment in machinery and tooling and the customer may not see that through the advertising. I've seen some bad, bad things go down.

Whatever. I have not used that or any other site to solicit business and I don't do retail work. I have not been on S&F since.

I have had guys on here ask if I can do some things that they can't get done anywhere else. Most of the time, I can help. If that steps on the toes of another shop who will not step up and buy the tooling to do the job themselves, what is the loss? I just want to see folks get things done right.

All of our shop services are available through a shop here close to me.

Isn't Jay Smith down there in TX?

I have to make a couple main bearing spacers to be able to cut the decks true to the mains. It's on my "to do" list. I can cut off what's there, but to do it correctly, you must reference the mains to make it square. I'm going to make a shell mill mount for my large surfacing machine to do them. You can do them on a Bridgeport, but I'd rather have the stability of a 3000# machine with more substantial ways to do it dead on to the nuts. My verticle mill is like a toy compared to the big surfacer.
