bent windshield frame

Post: # 4862Post 77viper »

Does anyone have any tips on straightening a bent frame?

I bought a used one and it has a slight bend to it so my dad picked it up and started to try and straighten it but it seams there is steel inside of the aluminum and he is having a heck of a time bending it at all. I will be going over there this weekend to see what I can do so any help would be appreciated.

Heat maybe. I will take a look at my frame later today when I get home and see what it looks like.

Be carefull heating aluminum, it can easily be burned out. If there is steel inside the rail more heat will be needed to bend and may take more than the aluminum can handle. I don't think the rail has any other material other than extruded aluminum in it and in the extrusion process the aluminum will become harder loosing is ductile properties. aluminum doesn't like to be bent and then bent back it will tend to crack at any extream bend.

My rail has a bow in one side also . I will like to know how yours comes out.
