HST4ME: Just curious as to why you would say that?? I have a man here local that bought one of theses boats when they were new. He run a 200hp OMC on it and told me the boat was almost undrivable at low speeds until he installed the tabs. If your thought is that they will catch the water when coming off the pad, I mounted them on an upward angle so the leading edge wouldn't dig in when slowing down. Even if it did all of the "bolts" are made of plastic so I don't think it would break any glass or certainly not throw me out. I guess I'll find out as soon as the weather warms!

I think he may be referring to how big they are and how they are angled downwards. They do look very big for that application/hull. The ones I have for mine stick out maybe 5 inches and are 9 inches wide. I have some big tabs just cause we figured the vulture being 20 feet it would be a better fit but the smaller hulls only used like a 6 inch wide by 4inch tab if I remember correctly and even when hydrostream offered them and they were the smaller solid tabs, not adjustable/movable tabs. He might correct me here but I think you have a much too big tab and the incorrect ones for that hull design and size.

Oh ok, thanks for the replies. You guys may be right but I'll give it a slow test run and see how they act. They remove real easy if the boat doesn't handle them well.

Guys,

Just wanted to give a quick update to the Varmint. I've had the boat out three times now and everything with the trim tabs are working flawlessly. The 2.4 I built is still being "tuned in" as it is running quiet lean but I'm adjusting on that every time I go out. (Wide open jet check everytime I quick for the afternoon)
The boat has absolutely no bounce and will stay on plan down to 15 mph. I've run it up to 76 mph on top a couple of times with very little chine walk.
You can feel the tabs working and stabilizing the boat to about 50-60mph. From there you can feel the boat get light as it starts getting "on the pad".
Keep in mind that although these tabs hang down below the boat, they are mounted at an upward angle so as not to bury the leading edge.
Just wanted to pass it along in case someone else is thinking of doing something like this.
BTW: Most fun boat I've every driven!!!! Beats my old Ally 2002 hands down.

Ive recently picked up a 79 viper, that is my first stream and also going to be my first recore and transom. Plan on leaving it a side steer. Haven't decided on power yet but i have two motors ready to go, one is a 2.4 200 and a carbed bridgeport, im going to put balsa back in for the core and ive been researching what kind of ply to use in the transom, was going to use okoume but have recently discovered whats called meranti which is also referred to as hydrotek which is a 18mm 13 ply mahogany marine grade ply. Anybody use this before?
