GT-200 Remove oil injection or not
I am having work done on my Johnny GT-200. The shop recommended that I remove the oil reservoir and go with mix. I'd prefer to keep it, but could be persuaded to change my mind. Convince me one way or the other. Bill
Re: GT-200 Remove oil injection or not
Hmm, I deleted mine on a mariner. Read two valid points, one was what if alarm fails and faulty alarms issue. I don't really want to run around to find another motor over a bad oil pump. On the other hand the I'll injection system varies the amount of oil injected with rpms, less at idle more at higher rpms.personally I remove mine just for the fact I stated above( don't want to run around or spend $ because motor blew over bad oil pump). A few boat mechanics said it was a good idea on a older motor to remove it and just mix.

I'm leaning that way also but would love to hear some more opinions. Is there a better oil gas mix fuel pump that I can upgrade to that would allow me to adjust the amount of oil? Just not close enough to leading edge to know anything about what's available these days,

Re: GT-200 Remove oil injection or not
It has been suggested to me many times I delete the oil pump in favour of premix, for a few reasons. For one, I'm spinning my motor at over 7000 rpm, apparently the pump drive doesn't think too much of that idea, and sometimes decides to give up. Not wanting to rely on an alarm which may or may not work is another reason. It's just another question mark that could lead to failure, and I for one plan on getting rid of it ASAP. Need to get my boat back first lol.... I moved 3 hrs south, but the boat hasn't yet!!

Re: GT-200 Remove oil injection or not
I say get rid of it. Chet always mixed his gas right at the pump and had this cool measuring cup thing for mixing that had all the ratios so there was almost no guess work. He would just top off the tank, fill the cup to the line 2 or 3 times and pour it in and be done. No worries about pumps failing or not keeping up, alarms not working, etc... I will most certainly be running mixed gas here. I say just get rid of it. Be a piece of mind also knowing that there is always oil in your motor.

delete it and mix, why risk seizing a motor? and oil flow will increase as the fuel demands increase when its mixed too.. maybe not the exact same amount as the pump, but it will increase also. more throttle, more fuel and oil will go in right? also, weight savings out back right? not that important but we all think about it

Re: GT-200 Remove oil injection or not
I have a couple Johnsons/Evinrudes and the manual suggesting increasing the oil ration in "performance" applications (can't remember the ratio off the top of my head). So what I do is add some oil to the gas and I also keep the oiler connected. I keep an eye on the oil tank level and if it ever fails, at least I have a little oil in the gas too.

Get you one of these. There called a ratio-rite and you can get them at any performance 2-stroke place. When all out racing, I mix 16:1 ratio and when lake playing I mix 32:1

Thats what I was talking about right there. Takes the guess work out of things. Super easy.proprider wrote:Get you one of these. There called a ratio-rite and you can get them at any performance 2-stroke place. When all out racing, I mix 16:1 ratio and when lake playing I mix 32:1
