Dual Cable Replacement part numbers

Post: # 22627Post Stevep1116 »

Hi to all,

Turned 60 this year and decided to start waterskiing again and bought a 1988 Verado with Evinrude 140 from the original owner and love the boat. Steering is quite stiff and am planning to investigate where the friction is coming from and clean if possible. If I determine cable replacement is necessary I'd like to ask if anyone knows what the replacement cable part numbers are. The only numbers I can find on the cable are OMC 140 13'.

Best regards,
Steve

Thanks for joining steve! Unfortunately your best bet is to get a whole new setup from terraflex.. in the end you will spend less time and hassle just doing that, I'm in the same boat so to speak lol

Steve, welcome. I see you are from Cotten, MN. My son and his mother live in Cotten. Small world.

I agree, you would be better off just getting a whole new setup from Teleflex/Seastar. They dont make RideGuide systems anymore and finding cables for them is tough. Also, there is no real good way to free up stiff or frozen cables. Just buy new and save yourself a lot of headache.

Teleflex makes a great system. But if your really handy with a computer, the teleflex dual opposed system is great but they don't make the helm anymore.

Thank you for the replies. Pulled the link and motor moves free, pulled the cable from the guide and it's still stiff so am going to replace with Hydraulic. I am a shopper for best price and system but hope someone has already done that and can share their findings.

Regards,
Steve

Go to Seastars web site and there is a contact us link, call or email them and let them know what boat and motor you have and that it is on a performance go fast boat and they will be able to tell you the best system to get for your application as they offer a wide range of options/choices then go to amazon and buy it or ebay. I personally prefer amazon. Seastar doesnt sell direct from their web site. Need to buy from a dealer, aka Amazon.

Hope that helps.

I researched the recommended Seastar unit but the site suggested the Baystar. I decided to upgrade to SeaStar since I am on the cusp and was ready to order a kit on Amazon but was advised by 2 different SeaStar techs to be sure I got the correct cylinder for my year and make motor. All of the kits I found advertised came with the 5345 cylinder and my 88 Evinrude requires the 5348 so I had to contact a dealer and order the components separately (best price was from Go2marine). Just thought I'd mention that since the SeaStar guide does not provide that level of detail on what to order.
