I ve ordered a Minxv18 ( VKing ) and im looking to put a hydraulic jack plate so HELP

I think it the same as a VKing 22 1/4. Im looking to put somewhere around 175 merc Looking close at the Opti pro 175XS

Set up with that brand new never drilled Minx is pretty important. Alot of information about set ups can be found by reading the forums this site has to offer. From my experience with jack plates on that hull "V King"I would check into a Bob"s Machine 5 1/2" of set back with a built in lift of 1.5 inches and a max lift of 4 inches. The Boat should run in the upper 70's range with the 175 and the right prop. Why not do a 200 with a Bob's cone and a big Mazco or a chopper and run 90+???
I own a Vulture with a Merc 225. Have a manual plate though... would love to go hydraulic one day to see if above center line of the pad can gain the always wanted MORE speed. I would think you would also run a gauge to tell where you are in terms of lift. At any rate have fun with the awesome Minx V pad.

Go with the least setback. That thing should fly just fine even with a 175. Heck, my 2 liter does ok on mine without a jack. I'm bolted to the transom. A jack is in the future though, just gotta find the right one though. Hydrolic of course. When are you taking delivery?

I used to be bolted directly to the transom as well (V-king with 150 x-flow). It did o.k., but really found a step change when adding the Jackplate. Boat was much more stable, took very little trim to break it free and picked up a good 5 MPH. Mine is a 5.5" setback CMC manual. No dought boat weight end engine weight are factors as well. Boat really came to life once I got the shaft close to the pad (currently 3/4" below). Porpoise and chine walk kept decreasing the higher the engine went (now finally gone). May try a new plate this year and go for even with the pad. Just some food for thought, and understand every boat/application is different.
