Finally have it tuned in with prop/height...running great. Never have had any water in it and remove plug after every run (we trailer.) Ran on Sat. and removed plug at ramp, about a gallon came out. We had the kids at Sandy Beach and they were jumping off the boat w/ friends, so I attributed the water to that...no biggie. Sunday...just tubing, I started looking. I plan to use white marine-tex to fix for summer.
Any advice would be great...Oh, can't say delam^%ation either
I checked this boat out top to bottom when I bought (with help from forum guide.) It was perfect in October.

hey i dont know about a recore but it looks like to me you might have run apon a stump or its cause of beeching it and rubed a rock or stick could be various things and could mean a recore

when your core gets real rotton it just desenagrates upon impact therefore weakening the bottom portorion of the hull and letting the fiberglass move more than usuall so it could be i would remove the section of the floor right above were the gelcoat is cracked and coming off and see how soft it is if your core is rotten it will flex down when you tap it with a hammer and if its good it will be pretty sold could be various problems so good luck and if your going to have to do a recore its no fun taking that stuff out and grinding look at my post 77 vector recore and see some of my pics and you will get some more opions from others but whatever the case is good luck

That doesn't look like fun either way. I would check the core right away, if it's bad the cracks will get a lot worse fast. You will only be making a lot more work for yourself in the long run putting off a recore.

I myself don't trust the tapping method of checking a core, it might tell you if the core is there or not but I don't think the average boater can tell the difference in sound from a wet core to a good core. This is just my opinion though.

I agree with Chet. When I bought my boat it all sounded nice and solid and the prev owner said the core was good and solid but a small crack in the transom area in the bottom of the hull made me rip the floor out only to discover the plain old plywood core and once I got it out it was soaked with water while all the time sounding good with a tap test. Even a local well known boat repair shop said it sounded solid but they said that not a very reliable test.

Sucks but I wish you luck getting it fixed.

Well, family likes it and I have become a "motorhead" and can actually work on it :0) Wife doesn't want to sell it, which amazed me, she liked the Baja.
It's a great boat...sooo. Can you tell a weight difference if core is wet? Can you check without tearing deck up?
I saw prices for outsourcing. Scary.

I can't remember what hull you have but I guess if you can find a similar hull and get the weight but then again you would need to know if that core was dry. Then if the seats were wet? I think there are too many variables to go just by weight but I have also thought about it enough to weigh my vegas before I do any work to it.

yea hippie i wished i would have weighed mine too lol i had some scales i could have used but iam going to weigh it once i get it put back together and i will post it in my 77 vector recore

I will want to know what mine weighs after it is done also. I don't remember who or what thread but someone was talking about a run that started with a weigh in. Hopefully next summer we will all make that huh? Bill

Bill I think that was me. My service manager has a set of scales and we do it at the shop with the hoist.

My 91 vegas xt weighs 1422 without a powerhead but condition is unknown. Just for kicks my viper is 997 without fuel.
