I went out the other day and as I expected, no speed increases. The boat ride slightly higher in the bow but the stern stayed the same. I had to over trim to get bow up so definitely more setback if I were to keep this motor.

Now I will put the 200 on with hydraulic steering .
Stay tuned...

How wide did the pad end up being? No change in speed, but how did it affect handling and planing time?

The pad ended up being 8” wide. It cornered much better as it was laying on the edge of the pad.
I just didn’t have the speed to lift

Finally got enough parts to get this old girl up to speed!!!

Bought a new "take off" lower unit from a dealer and got the nose cone, torque tab, and cavitation plate "wings" TIG welded on. Now to get the bulk of the fairing done with epoxy. Will only use a skim coat of auto body glazing to finish the body work.
The foot throttle, jack plate, transom stiffeners, pro trim and sea star PRO are all here now. Aluminum fuel tank is welded up and ready to install.

I disassembled the trailer, sand blasted, and am painting it red with hand stripes I'll put on it. Relocated the axle as far back as possible as it was tongue light with the 80.

I have 2 ea. 2.5L 200 power heads and a 2.5L 150 EFI powerhead to choose from.
This day job is really cutting into my rigging time.
I'll post more as I get things assembled.

Well I’ve been fighting the red paint on the trailer for 2 weeks!!
Two coats of epoxy primer went perfect. First coat of single stage red, fish eyed horribly. Like grease was smeared on it.
Anyway it ended up being the primer. 8 light coats later, I have a red trailer!!
Broke out my “never used “ pinstripe brushes and striping enamel and went to town. Not perfect but not horrible.

Got the jack plate mounted, mid and lower mocked up and installed.

With jack full up and motor on highest setting on jack, I’m even with the pad.

Got the solid mounts installed before calling it a night.

The 16 gal fuel tank got welded up and the lower unit is in primer.

Went to Washington for the holidays and picked up a fiberglass alien cowl (top only) for $25.00 . It was at the prop shop in Spokane.
Someone bondo’d it to the bottom 4” of a late 90’s cowl so it would latch on a 90’s bottom. The sides slid in surprisingly well. The alien cowl is about 4” longer so they centered it and stuffed kitty hair bondo in the gap.

It never had a front cover so I pulled a mold off my 280 cowl and laid up one.
I started scraping off the spray paint and found nice metal flake .
I have it coming back to Alaska via Alaska air cargo. It’s in Seattle waiting for cargo space to get home.

Once back home, I pulled a mold off my Alien skirt and will lay up a part this week.

I plan on molding my own bottom cowl that will be a 2 piece like the factory ‘97 one utilizing these mounting points.

I found retro alien decals I have coming this way. $65.00 for the set isn’t bad!!

The cowl showed up today and I HAD to put it on a standard cowl bottom to see how it looked. OMG!!!! Yuck!!!! It did actually latch down. Time to slice and dice...
Compared to my 280, the bottom lip slopes .

Nice work on your GT.
I built a GT-150 back in 2011 that I have been drag racing for the past 6 years.
I've had an OMC 2.6xp on it for little over a year or so. No cone on the gearcase causes a blowout over 76mph but is a dream up to 75mph.
