transom and recore??????
transom and recore??????
My 1st hydrostream and the floor is soft. From what I've read the core will be bad also. I have also found a soft spot on the transom . So I'm not afraid to do the work at all. My big question is. Is it best to seperate the top from the hule? And what is easier seperating or cuting out the splash pan for the transom???

Lol! Yeah a blast! The itching and tight quarter gunna love it! where is the best place to cut? Whole splashwell or just a small section? I've done several car restos. some fiberglass work so just abit nervous about cuting out an area wrong and making more work. I did see one guy cut out the back of the transome them re glassed it back in?? Doesn't seem like a good move so looking for some direction. Thanks

did you know if you wash with cold water after fiberglassing you will be less itchy? Closes the pours.

Re: transom and recore??????
Well, It depends if you are going to put your splashwell back in to retain the stock look or deck over (Remove and fill in) the splashwell.
I plan to fill mine in and this is how I cut it. Now remember, I am not replacing mine so this wasnt as important on where to cut really.
And here the transom is all out and ready to be put back in
And the Transom back in.
Check out my Resto thread for a bunch more pictures.
This is Chets viper but it will look the same. This is the splashwell filled in/decked over.

Re: transom and recore??????
that is a nice lookin' repair, leaving the outer skin is critical,,IMO,also if you use good talcum powder before glasswork it really helps the itching.
Re: transom and recore??????
I have seen this a few times in other posts regarding the splashwell, and hopefully this question goes along with this post. What is the purpose of filling in the splashwell, rather than leaving it the way it was with a well? On a viper, it has a well with a drain going through the transom. Are their benefits to covering the well and having a flat surface?
