Does anyone know how many HydroStreams left the factory with foam core? What years? Models? ..........
Most of you know,.... I hadthe fortunate opportunity to acquire the "last Virage" that was found 20+ years later still in the mold dated 1991.
Once home, I pulled a sample of the core and found foam.
A few months later while attending the "frost your nuts off" rally with our Viper, I spoke with Jeff Baker about my "find" . He said since it was the last Virage built in 1991, I might want to pull more core samples. At that time they were using up what ever they had laying around before the doors closed. He said, "you may find balsa and plywood as a core also in that hull". Luckily, my boat is all foam cored. Apparently there was enough foam on the shelf when mine was laid up.
I haven't heard of foam cores discovered and thought I would ask.
Wondering how to post images or maybe change your avatar or maybe something else?

Wow. I was not aware that they used any foam at all for cores. Learn something new every day.

Re: Hydrostreams with foam core (factory)
I am going to leave it.
When I bought the boat, I planned on recoring it and even bought all the balsa to do a full recore. Now I have all this material so I will use the balsa to make the floor, bulkheads and foot rests.
This boat had the center floor installed (but had rotted away leaving just the perimeter) while it sat in its mold for 20+ years. The outer sponsons were uncovered and never had the pour in foam added. The outer sponsons don't have a core as the foam would have supported the sides., I will either balsa core them or make balsa bulkheads as I will not be putting the pour foam in.
A new transom has been installed a few months ago.
