Re: Vector rebuild help

Post: # 20279Post Stellix »

I have a few from when I picked it up. I haven't got a chance to work on it yet. The hull and deck are already separated and the transom, floor, stringers and core already removed and cleaned up. Most of the dirty work was done before I got it. That's one reason I'm not exactly sure how the stringers and floor were from the factory. I did pick up a motor , steering , jack plate and hot foot forint last week so I'm excited about getting it all together . I'm not sure how to post pics from my phone, anybody know how?

Thanks for posting the pictures for me. I have a lot of work to do but I'm looking forward to getting started. The guy I got it from said this boat has been 100+ mph. He said the bottom has been blueprinted and straightened up, it looks like its flat instead of having the hook. Is that good or bad? Never heard the term blueprinted used in a boat hull work.

cool project

bottom being blueprinted means it should be nice and sharp.....flat surfaces and straight strakes. balanced on both sides of running surface. if you flip it over during the rebuild take some pics and share.

flat bottom is not the end of the world as you'll read some people saying. mine has a flat pad. if i had the choice i would choose original pad with wedge but o well. if youre gonna run the 150 i dont see any problem with the flat pad. its when you start running 90+ that the boat starts getting flighty without the hook/wedge. a good tail lifting prop can help keeping control of the flighty nose of the flattened pad vector.

wood choice .......like mentioned above.........all depends on how light you want boat and what our intentions of use (racer or river runner) i used 3/4" marine ply to build stringers and trans(doubled up on trans) but i wanted something that could take a beating....wasnt worried about weight (but i bet im still lighter than the water logged vector i started with :boating: )

I already have the Balsa and glass materials I need . I think I'll use 3/4" for the transom and stringers & knees and 1/2" for the floor. I have a 9 1/2" Rapid Jack plate for it , I just need to figure out what prop to start with. The motor came with a 25 pitch 4 blade but I'm not sure how that's going to work on this boat. It was being used on a pretty heavy bass boat.

9 1/2" is a lil excessive........6" or less would be better
