Hydrostream Were built with Balsa Wood Core. Very Strong and cheap compared to foam. People have had great Results with foam, Plus no rot with foam! :) If It were me, I would rip it all out and redo. Then you know that its solid instead of hopeing it is. Brandon

getting a lot of mixed results on balsa and foam
most do lean toward foam though
sounds like the main result is ensure everything is glassed and SEALED properly
Thats just common sense to me

I'm sure hydrostreams were just laid up with common glass and resin

has anyone used West System epoxy for a redo ??

Frog check into this place http://www.expresscomposites.com/ . This is where I buy all my glassing stuff. The owner is a great guy but will talk your ear off.

I used bulsa for the simplicity as with core bond and polyester. I want to try epoxy on my next project and may look into foam core.... What am I thinking I'm not finished with one core job and I'm already thinking of another?
You're right I think how you install the material makes more of a differance than what you use.

I too will be going with bulsa just to keep my costs down so I can get on the water sometime next spring/summer. And Chet, Thanks for the link to the site. I was originally planning on having to order online but now I can save alot by getting it locally. :)

chet, They gonna let you rent that spot in the shop or dont know yet?

I used foam on mine. It will be fine. I was laughed at when I was talking about bulsa being stronger. I dont know and I know what I've read but I'm going to listen to the guy who does this stuff day in and day out. He said bulsa is good but theres always that water thing. I dont want to do the core again so, foam it is. JMO Heres a couple of links local to us and read my recore thread. Make sure and shop your resin prices. If I we're to do it again I would go with vinlester, I seems easier to work with.

The owner of the shop is willing but I got word from my boss that said it might be a conflict of interest, he thinks I would use it to do side work or go out on my own. Our lease is up dec 1 so I'm trying to bust out as much as I can before that. My boss sure doesn't understand what or why I'm recoring the boat, he keeps trying to get me to buy a new boat :dunno:

I guess he is not a hydrostream kinda guy. Something about the older boats that is so much funner then the new ones. :D

Maybe sign something with your boss saying you will not do paying work or take away from there workload. Ya know, just your own personal stuff and maybe help a friend or two. wink wink. lol

I'm going to use this shop as much as I can then look into finding one closer, I live 1/2 hour away. If I find something closer I will be doing more side work.

Frog I work for R&R marine in Shakopee.
