best stream rebuilder??

Post: # 2525Post frogII »

what shop has got the best reputation for core work and gel work (minnesota area)
someone that actually understands these boats and cares

I know if I dig into it myself it won't see water for at least ten years

I've got two other projects not as important time wise , don't really want to dig into another

I have delt with most of the larger boat body shops in MN and as far as the best, I personally think Jim at Bottoms up in Burnsville is the best. He is also the slowest and not the cheapest.
Shipwreck in prinston is doing one for someone on there he is michal999 or something like that on S&F.
If you take it in ask a lot of questions as far as what materials will be used and why. I talked to one shop about doing mine and they wanted to take the bulsa out and just use glass in it's place.

I think Hippie got a quote of about $8000 for a recore and after doing mine I can see that, I have well over 150 hours into it and most of that time was dirty work.

They guys at Shipwreck really know there stuff and they are even friends with Howard too. :D

Now Shipwreck is not cheap by any means but you get what you pay for and they will do an excellent job and do it 100% right.

My estimate from them of just over $8000 did not include any paint or get/body work. That was just core, transom, floor, fill in the splashwell, and straighten out the bottom. That was no interior work, no repainting, nothing. I could be into it for over 10k if I went all in and I dont have that kind of spare cash so I am gonna do it myself. Hopefully with some help though... Anyone? ;D

WOW , that puts a whole new perspective on things
I think I'll call both and ask a lot of questions

in the end it may be the start of a very loooooooonnnnnnng project or at least until the kids are out of school and can take care of themselves
that'll be a happy day :boating:

and I will still need the cash for a bigger motor
I know this kind of work is mostly labor

Thanks for the info

From my understanding the worst part of the whole thing is the tear out and clean up getting it ready. Then its not so bad once ya get past that cause then you get to put it all back together. :D

I think most guys are saying they have around $1000-1500 in materials but its the hours it takes to it that is where it would get ya if you paid a shop to do it. I dont mind a little manual labor once and a while. :)

Thats what I hear and hopefully by the end of the month I will have mine ground down and ready to start installing.

Now it might be a month or two till I can get all the supplies to start putting it back together but it will get done one way or another.

I thought that was part of the "sucks" in grinding?
