I have the core and stringer work completed and have started looking at the floor.
I expected the main floor would be more or less flat. It's not.
The middle 6' of the 8' long floor is pretty flat. The front end curves upwards 1" on the port side and and 1/2" on the starboard side. It also kicks up at the transom, but not as severely.
It is an 89 V-King and I am using 1/2" marine grade plywood for the floor.
I think the port/starboard discrepancy is caused by a previous repair on the port side.
No point asking if this curve is normal because it is what it is.
I am wondering about installing the floor.
With the naked plywood (not sealed), the curves are achievable with modest weight. But it needs to be sealed, right?
I am wondering about sealing the bottom of the floor and then bending it in tension. Polyester resin will possibly crack and then we have lost the seal.
How are other prepping the bottom side of the plywood? Resin, resin and glass, other?
Does the floor need to be in one piece? 3 pieces would lay pretty.
Maybe put a couple of 1/4" deep score cuts across the bottom?
Wondering how to post images or maybe change your avatar or maybe something else?
