Vision setup

Post: # 15100Post idvette »

Just had the boat out for a quick rip to make sure everything I've done is working. Replaced the stator, voltage regulators, added a 6" setback jackplate. Driving the boat is a lot easier, doesn't porpoise as much, chine walk has toned down remarkably. I have the prop shaft about 1/2" below the pad (I don't have a water pressure or temp guage yet). Steering has become a lot stiffer at 50mph and up. Before steering resistance was the same up to about 65, but now it definately stiffens up as I go faster. Is this normal? I did have a bit of chine walk at about 65, tried to correct it, the steering felt almost locked....

P.S. I pulled the cables through more to compensate for the setback ;)

Just throwing stuff out there as I think about it... It doesn't plane worth a damn, probably even worse than last year. No joke it's about 15 seconds of full throttle, trimmed all the way down, nose in the air, until it finally comes down and takes off like a rocket. 30 pitch prop way too much? It's the only one I have right now..

The further you raise the engine the more torque your going to feel, I install a torque tamer from Bobs and helped a lot

Not so much torque I don't think, as I have a tamer installed as well. I could let go of the steering wheel (not that I would) and the boat would stay it's course, like I said it seemed almost locked. Or is that the definition of steering torque in a boat? Torque steer in a car is when the powertrain tries to rip the wheel out of your hand, so that's the way I'm thinking....

That is torque steer, and in severe cases, it can make the steering feel "locked". You'll need to experiment with setup to get it under control.

Start by making sure your steering is completely free, and not binding. What brand of steering is in there?

It's a dual cable setup, the only markings I see say "caution tighten fully" lol.... Don't know the manufacturer

If it's a "No feedback", it's gonna act "locked", they suck in high performance boats. If you loosen your grip on the wheel, will it stay straight, or try to turn?
