Finished up installing all the stringers, inner core and flooring and ground out all of the outer core area with a longboard and some 24 grit paper. Got a nice flat surface and the 24 grit gouges should give the core a good mechanical bond.

Dug the decking out of a snow drift. It's in pretty good shape but the dash area is a piece of swiss cheese. Plan
is to rework the dash area and beef up the splashwell also. Can someone tell me what was used for the core under the front decking? To look at it through the glass, it looks like a bunch of Dominos. I'm assuming it is some kind of foam and has no signs of moisture.

proprider, what is that wood between the stringers?? im guessing thats for more rigidity on the pad? what kind of wood is that?

The wood between the stringers is 6mill.-5ply Ocume plywood. I had it left over from another project and used it as a laminate over the core. The boat is going to be rigged as a lake racer and the flooring won't be getting that much "traffic". It is some pretty stout wood and my plan is to leave it a natural finish, it has a beautiful grain and would be a shame to cover it up.

That's one of those endless disputes. Most mat has a binder that holds it together, the binder dissolves when exposed to styrene. This leads to the thought that it can't be used with epoxy. The debate is whether the undissolved binder harms the finished laminate. For anyone concerned that it may be an issue, there are mats availible without the binder, specifically for use with epoxy.

A better argument for not using mat, is it simply isn't necessary when using epoxy, you don't have the adhesion issues that demand the use of mat when laying up with polyester. "Epoxy guys" always argue, "why use old school mat with high tech, modern epoxy"?

Yes, the hull will have open stringers with center steer and tandom seating. I plan to use the outer set of stringers to mount my shifter, kill switch, fire extinguisher, ect...

While cycling through the constants of sanding, glassing and itching, I find myself daydreaming of my finished Viper. I got some more core bedded tonight and got done early. Came in the house and sketched my thoughts on paper. This is what I cameup with........
