Hello everyone! Thanks for all the great info that you all have posted thus far! My question is- I have picked up a 84 Ventura. The owner prior to me cut a 6x6 hole in the floor under the well area, and than mounted a 3/4"x6" circular piece of wood in front of the hole so that he could "properly" mount his ski pole! Should this hole in the floor be there? Can I cover it back up? Should I cover it back up? Due to the fact that the floor now has a soft spot in it about 3"x3"........can you guys please give me advise and post pics so I can get an idea of what you guys are doing! Thanks
Ok, im going to be the one to say it... How is the CORE in the boat? Unless you know its been replaced, I will put $100 on it that it is rotten and needs to be replaced. If your floor is soggy/soft anywhere and its never been replaced, you can bet the core is going to be even worse, along with the transom too.
Steve, hippie is right. If you don't know much about a hydrostream then you may be in for a rude awakening. The core is the structure of the hull. If it's bad, the boat is living on borrowed time. I've personally seen what happens to them when used with a bad core.
As for the hole, it's hard to understand exactly where the hole is without a picture. I'm sure it can be filled back in.
Welcome, fellow Texan, I hope you're aren't disillusioned with your boat. Fact is, most people have to pay a lot of dues to own a safe Stream. The idea of a rebuild can can be intimidating, but it's not complicated. Labor intensive... yes.
Anyway, if you have to do a lot of work on it, you can consider (us) your therapeutic support group.
Thanks for all the support! I have a soft area in the rear just froward of the little bilge hole due to the previous owner mounting a ski pole to the floor and not classing the mounting pad. The soft spot I found is part of the deck... From what I can tell there has not been a drain plug in this boat for years... So I may be in luck.
I really need help trying to post pics... I think I'm doing something wrong! I have a photo bucket acct..
With my android phone in the photobucket app, when I click on a picture it goes full screen. Then I see 4 icons on the bottom of the screen. I click on the triangle shaped one and select copy to clipboard. Then it gives me the option of what code to copy. Select the html code and then past it in the reply box on this forum. That is how it works on an Android phone.
