Viking recore

Well, this spring it was time to cut out some floor to check the core and hope for the best. Ha, I knew it! Found someone had replaced the core from the transom to behind the front seats with plywood. The rest of the bulsa core was wet and rotten.
Image
You can see where the plywood ends and all the holy chop gun stuff starts

Image
This bulsa was VERY easy to get out. Way up in the bow there was some intact but wet and hard to remove.

Image
Here you can see a bandaid to the stringers. To the right, they buddied up wood to the rotten stringers and put a cap on them.

This poor boat!

A little itchy elbow grease

The worst of it was all the resin where the plywood was. It took a lot of time to get it to the chop. Real tough in the stringer area to get the pad area chean. Floor register wasnt too bad.

Next step, under the bow, fun. Once I get that done I guess I can start going the other way! I still have some things to figure out like the stringers on top of the core or bonded to the bottom. I'll figure it out! I'll keep it updated :boating:

Rick.

Need to ad that all the wood (core, ply and floor) were all soaked and very heavy. I bet the thing will float an inch higher and gain top end. May need more prop. was tapin 6800+ on the tach. The 2 liters can handle that but I don't want it hittin 7000. Wont break it, just wear it out. :boating:

Got another couple of feet done under the bow today after work. Man what a btch it is under there. Such a long bow on the vikings. The core goes way the f*&^% up there. Good thing is, NOT MUCH MORE GRINDING! Should start adding parts this weekend! :majesty:
Maybe more pics tomorrow, Rick
