FOND DU LAC, Wis., Sept. 10, 2009 – Mercury Racing is pleased to announce the release of the next generation of Mercury OptiMax 200XS ROS (race offshore) and OptiMax 200XS SST (super sport tunnel) outboards. The new race models feature a Gen 2 – 2.5 Liter OptiMax powerhead, which combines components from the Mercury Racing OptiMax 2.5XS outboard and the current Mercury Racing engineered OptiMax 175 Pro XS outboard.

The OptiMax 200XS ROS is the official power of U.I.M. Class 3C offshore racing, a highly competitive single-engine, mono-hull offshore racing class that competes throughout Europe.

The engines will be produced only in the short shaft “SS” 15-inch drive shaft configuration, with the 1.75:1 Sport Master gearcase. Both right-hand and left-hand rotation models will be available. Models are intended for single or twin engine installations. Right-hand rotation models feature a Sport Master gearcase with a cambered skeg – a natural for single-engine applications such as outboard drag racing.

OptiMax 200XS SST
The OptiMax 200XS SST won the 1999 & 2000 24 Hours of Rouen endurance powerboat races overall and has won Class 2 competition multiple times. The engine was the power behind Jimmie Merleau’s 2008 ChampBoat Series F-2 World Championship.

OptiMax 200XS SST

The part number for the complete engine and price is as follows:

A conversion kit, which enables SST 120 racers to convert to the new OptiMax 200XS SST includes the complete powerhead, top and bottom cowls and the unique right in/left out IV SSM gearcase.

Part Number: 840271A21
Racer Price: $14,950.00

Production of both OptiMax 200XS ROS and OptiMax 200XS SST engines and conversion kits will be based on confirmed orders and the engines will be built one time per year in advance of the following race season. Models will be sold direct to known, qualified race teams or through Mercury Racing dealers or OEM boat builders. It is the responsibility of the dealer or boat builder to ensure the eligibility of race teams ordering engines through their business and communicate such information back to Mercury Racing.

There are no sales programs and, of course, no warranty.

All orders must be received no later than Friday, Nov. 13 with a non-refundable deposit of 30 percent of the purchase price. Engines will be delivered by March 1, 2010.
