Lol.... I'm thinking so too. Apparently the floor was just done about 4 years ago, with no signs of a bad core. But if the floor rotted that quickly, I imagine the core may need attention.

I'll have a look, but money's too tight for an engine purchase this year. I'm happy so far with the way this motor's running, I'm going to be deleting the oil injection and looking at short mids over the winter. Then tear up the floor in the spring and see if I'm getting into a recore project.... The boroscope showed a few dark spots near the transom, and the floor's weak under the driver's seat. We'll see....

There is a great deal on a Bridgeport EFI and a few 260s on S&F right now. Now is the time to buy, end of season.

Ted at Speedmaster knows Mercs too.

I've heard the Top Gun name before, sounds like a pretty reputable place.

Paul at Top Gun marine or Ted at speedmaster marine, both in our neck of the woods, both great sources of new and used parts and information for the black stuff.

The drive gear for oil injection is plastic, and begins to fall apart at about 6500

Just wanted to re visit this one. Since I changed to a 23" pitch Mach 3 a few weeks ago I've really been able to enjoy driving the boat. Gets out of the hole better, midrange will throw you out of the boat, and top end is respectable without any real handling issues. I'm seeing 75 mph at a bit over 7000 rpm.(Tach only goes to 7000) Apparently no rev limiter.... I've pulled the plugs after every run, motor seems happy, I'm starting to think maybe there's been some work done to this motor already. I had the exhaust divider off, didn't see any grinder marks. Am I pushing my luck??? I've been adding some oil to my fuel, haven't deleted the oil injection yet...
