When I had my Vector I ran it with a 4" L&S hydraulic plate. I wouldn't go with any more setback than that. I just bought a 3" manual jackplate for our Ventura from Vance MFG. Really nice quality and was a good price.

Im not a Vector expert (yet), but I have heard anything in the 2 1/2 inch to 4 inch jackplate is about right for the Vector. And get the motor as high as you can without loosing water pressure if you dont have a nose cone with a low water pick up. One trick is to block the top half of the water inlets on a stock case to help get the motor up more without losing water pressure.

I am looking for a new motor for my 1974 Vector, I want to get a transom jack or jack plate and really have no clue what I am doing or what I should do? I am looking at a 1993 140 hp Evinrude or possibly a 135 hp Mariner, would say late 80's or early 90's' I want to get it set-up properly and could sure use some advice! Thanks
