Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Spent a couple hours covering the white and outlining the red. Got the red sprayed and edge tape removed. Wrapping the top edge of the windscreen. Sides are thin enough that the glass doesn’t want to roll over the top so some putty was put on the top edge as the 1708 was rolled over. No air bubbles ...

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

First color is on.
Straight white gel to cover filler then three coats white gel 50:50 with Dura Tec additive.

Sprays out like car paint.

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Got the putty sanded and two coats of some scrap gelcoat sprayed over the filler.
Spent 7 hours wet sanding the gelcoat with 180 grit.

Time to mask and start spraying.

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Spent 4 hours grinding the bottom. Mainly removing gelcoat. There was some delaminating in the corners where the center sponson meets the tunnel top. Both sides. About 10’ each side in the 1/2” radius. Great fun carefully sweeping 24 grit to remove the bad. Laid in chop glass strips. It appears the ...

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Transom and knee braces installed , transom seam V’d out and glassed back ( now it’s straight top to bottom!!!!!) boat flipped , molds pulled, deck to hull overlap filled with 3M-5200.put a light in my caulking gun to see in the gap. (Both surfaces were ro...

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

I’m going to try to use a corrugated plastic campaign sign as a core on the wind screen.
I’ll report if it will hold up to the resin.

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Thanks to you Glenn for chatting on messenger and sharing pictures of your HST build. One thing we were discussing that I rectified was that silly deck to hull overlap going across the transom. That extra fiberglass in the overlap created a large lip for a jack plate to sit on and not against the tr...

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Today I put the deck back on and rolled outside to grind off the gelcoat that had spider cracking.
Luckily, most of it was just in the gel.
Bout 3 hrs work.

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)

Today I put in the carpet. One piece 8-1/2’ x 9’. I fit the gas tank and realized there’s no way you would get a bilge pump in the floor opening. There isn’t enough height. I may drill a hole in front of the tank , thru the floor and put one there. There is bilge wiring already run and I have a bilg...
