Helping a friend on a new to him Ventura II
I'll try to get him to start posting up. He's making the switch from a 180SS Baja and pulling the 2.7 Looper off and it'll be going on a '76 Ventura II we found.
So far it's using parts we have, but I've told him the Looper should float fine without too much weight back there with it. The consensus was using the 6" jack plate for now since going to the transom would burry the motor too low.
He was considering going with his "lake size" fuel cell in the bow at 24 gallons. I know these boats are suppose to fly the bow pretty easy but everything I've been doing with my Vector tells me that's a BAD idea on a decent set up for one of these. I told him I'd rather he run a twin battery set up and keep those in the nose vs. putting a varying load that size up there.
Thoughts/opinions/suggestions from guys that have/had this hull?
Thanks all!
Dustin

You don't put 24 gals. of fuel in the bow of a 'Stream. At half a tank the sloshing would throw you out the boat!

Re: Helping a friend on a new to him Ventura II
Have a look at some of my threads, my Vision is very close in size to a Vector. I've been messing with setup this year, adding a 6" jackplate for my 200 Merc efi caused the rear wingtips to be under water, and very flighty with just me in it. 50lbs of sand in the nose and a passenger calmed it down a lot, but I still need either less setback or more weight in the front. I'll get it eventually lol... Dealing with a cracked gearcase and poor steering right now, then on to prop choices...

Re: Helping a friend on a new to him Ventura II
I must not have typed that out clearly lol.
I'm narrowing down the set up on my Vector pretty decent. I have a few things to try out.
HOWEVER I've not been around a Ventura ever. I've read about fuel cells in the nose on these (I'm not a fan since he's going with a big cell).
Not sure on set back due to the 500lb Looper on the back
I think I have the gist of it, but was curious on other Ventura set ups.
After getting it back home, there's no way he's going to be boating this year in it. It was more saving it from the dumpster than anything, wishful thinking it'd be good enough to get wet a bit this year before doing the inevitable anyway. Oh well, still nice to get him into a 'Stream.

Yeah the 2.5 EFI Merc on my 5.5 plate will take water over the transom of my Vector if not careful. I'm also looking at going with a 2.5 plate to help hole shot amongst other things. Kind of what I was trying to help figure out on this Ventura II that a friend just snagged that will be getting the core removed and a new transom......

Re: Helping a friend on a new to him Ventura II
So, how do I remove the top deck of the Ventura? How is it done on any hydrostream? I've heard of people doing a transom replacement without pulling the deck, but I would like to make my life easier. I would like to fill in the well while I do the transom and that would help with replacement, but it would still suck.

I also thing a false front going all the way across with the transom in front of the rear "protrusions" of the boat to keep them from holding water would be a good idea.

Sorry, I must not have read your whole post lol... Yes the Ventura is different than your Vector and my Vision. Never set one up, look to Pete (Transomstand) for advice, his runs very well I hear
