Will this new v8 Mercury 4 stroke be to heavy?for 2003 Vegas XT?

The new 2018 4S Merc' 225HP is a V6, not a V8.

Of the new 2018 4S family,
175HP-225HP V6 weight = 475 lbs.
250+HP V8 weight = 670 lbs.

By comparison, the early 2000's model Mercurys.
ProMax 300X (320HP, 3.0L V6) = 470 lbs.
The ever popular 225 ProMax (and it's variants) = 375 lbs.


There's a guy in New York who's running a Yamaha VMax 300HP on his VKing. I'm unsure of what model year his is, but the 2010 300 HPDI Yamaha is 539 lbs.

At any rate, you can forget about putting a V8 Merc on your Vegas.
670 pounds is just too damn much.

New v8's are 512#----250R and 300R, variants are slightly heavier (25", heavy duty, DTS internal steer)

People put the old 3 and 3.2 litres (505#) on 20 foot streams all the time. New v8 not much different except more top heavy--2 cylinders up higher.

For the time being, you could be limited on lower unit choices for the v8.

The Pro XS models of the new V8 are the lightest version of this engine and are offered as 200, 225, 250, or 300 HP. The claimed weight is 505 lbs.

Still ridiculous. V8, 505 lbs, and only 200HP? It's a 4.6L engine for crying out loud. Just one more reason 4-strokes suck for performance.

New 400R should be out soon. V8 4 stroke. A pair of those on the back of a Skater would not suck for performance. 130+ mph boat. Roughly 300# lighter than two 400R Verados (Inline 6). Not too many 2 strokes running 130--right out of the box.

Didn't realize the 200 Pro Xs & 225 Pro XS were V8s

The 2018 Verado 400R is already out. And its still an inline 6 / 2.6L engine. And still 668 pounds.

So I have to wonder - considering the specs of the 400R - why their other models are significantly larger, yet put out less horsepower.

Secondly, this isn't a Skater forum, nor are people putting 2 motors on the back of their Streams. I'm sure if you could manage to stick 2 400R's on the back of a Vegas or Vulture, it too would be a 130+ mph boat. But that ain't happening, ever.

Lastly, Hydrostreams were never designed to handle and balance the weight of 4-stroke motors. Not saying it can't be done....but would it be worth it?

I-6 going away (15 year old technology). 400r+ will be v8.
300R naturally aspirated. New 400R+ V8 blown?
I think a Vegas could handle a production V6 225 4 stroke--but lower Unit? Cone it as in the past.
There was a Evinrude V8 on a Vulture (blew my doors off--and I didn't even have doors) and on a HST. Weight of a Evinrude V8?
The new 115 Pro XS 4 stroke weighs less than the old 115 Pro XS 2 stroke. 2.1 Liter vs 1.5 liter.V6s and V8s are doing the same. Weights are coming down drastically.
New Verado 150 lbs lighter. Wooof.
Wildman just ran 103 on a 21 Liberator with 300R. Ran 101 with 300 XS 2 stroke. 4 strokes getting lighter and faster everyday. Good for Streams.
